Intercultural Design Sprint

Building an inclusive school

Event Details

Tuesday, October 29, 2024

1:30 PM - 4:00 PM AEDT

Venue: Online workshop via Zoom

This program was designed for teachers and school leaders from schools that participated in the BRIDGE Program.

Program

During the Intercultural Sprint, teachers used design thinking principles to consider the question:
How might we create a more diverse and inclusive school?

With a focus on Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI), participants explored and discussed the topic within their schools to identify issues related to GEDSI and non-inclusive practices that may have occurred. They then designed, sketched, and selected the most popular ideas to create a school environment that was more respectful, inclusive, and understanding of cultural differences. Participants left with a step-by-step resource to replicate such workshops with their students.

Learning Outcomes

During this workshop, participants:

  • Understood the importance of diversity and inclusion in society.

  • Learned design thinking principles and strategies.

  • Reflected on what contributes to a more inclusive school.

  • Designed ideas and projects to create a more inclusive environment.

  • Developed a sense of responsibility to foster diversity and inclusivity in their communities.
